Count your MINI BLESSINGS
Count your many Blessings!
But don't forget to count your "Mini" blessings. They happen all the time, sometimes in response to prayers. Even "Mini" prayers.
My favorite mini prayer is this one.
I pray it often, and I thank God with every step as he does it.
So here are some of my personal Mini Blessings. How many can you add?
Choosing Thursday to go shopping for Groceries, and watching a blizzard come in on Friday.
Finding a child who gets separated from you in a store
Having someone answer their phone when you really need them.
A child's smile
A perfect cup of coffee
Supper all cooked when you come home hungry, served with a smile
If we need extra money, we give more. It always works. In fact, it's a mini miracle. It doesn't have to be money, it can be an act of kindness, help for someone who needs it, care for a stranger.
Remember, even thieves and murderers care about their own, it's the stranger you give care to which is truly an act of Charity. Guess where that's from?? Mini blessings for both of you.
Just back from Vacation and wow, I have more Mini's!!
A driver who will let you in front of her when you are in the wrong lane. Such a blessing!
A working Garmin GPS ----An IPhone you know how to work.
"Assist" when you have a health problem and know that you can't make your plane connection
A friendly and smart skycap. What a blessing they were, and how we thanked them. $$$
Waitstaff who will go to the kitchen and find out if there is MSG in the food you want to try.
Natives with directions and suggestions and smiles.
Family who don't mind if you tell them the same story more than once.
People who don't feel it is their job on this earth to change your mind to their way of thinking.
People who care enough to ask you a question, and then listen to your answer. If they do not agree, they could say "Interesting!" I find many, many theories interesting. Doesn't mean I agree, but it does mean I respect your theory.
People who seem to just love their work. Work can be easy time, or hard time and nobody should be doing hard time. I wish everyone could love their work. So nice to find them ready to help you.
Employers who treasure good employee's. Now there's a concept.
Sunshine as the sun sets after a long, cool, rainy day.
A parking spot near the subway in Washington DC. We actually asked a nice lady who was walking, if she was leaving, she said yes and we followed her. Otherwise, there was just NONE!
Children who don't tell you if you snore.
July, 2016-Today's MINI-A daughter by your side when you start a fire in the pine needle pile from the exhaust on your garden tractor and load of tree branches--did I mention we are in the Manistee National Forest, in drought conditions? She got it out as I hurried back the path to get Jim, but after dousing the little bit of smouldering stuff with water, all was well. Thanks, Lynn! Then about 12 oclock, I had to go outside and check one more time.

Jim's moving the big ladder alllllll by himself
Living out in the woods, kids all married and independent, there comes a day when you need to use your head. This is how Jim moves his big ladder around. He straps it on the wheel barrow with a big bungie cord and off he gos! It would help if you had a strong wife, which Jim does not, but he does quite well, for 80!

Pin Cushion/ Accident Report
I'm up to 20 pin cushions now. I just bagged them. I'm still having fun with that fancy dancing fabric scrap bag I paid a dollar for years back.
Made Valentines to hang up. Scraps, no costs, then since my friend sharpened all of my scissors for me, I clipped a wire, and snipped a chunk out of my knuckle. It could have taken a stitch but there's not much skin there, so I butterflied it. tisk tisk tisk
The Towhee is still here, we call him Toby now.
Mar. 12, 2015, the hole is healed in my knuckle a red bump tells me where it was, the fingers are moving just great, 2 more pin cushions, and the living room curtains are washed and re-hung. I think I'm getting spring fever!! 2 days of 50 this week so far. Whoo Hoo!
The Towhee left around the third warm day we had. We hope he has joined his family and friends, wherever they are. He seems fat and strong, and we enjoyed his company this blustery 2015 Winter.
I put 2 of the pin cushions on ebay. They didn't sell, but they make great gifts to tuck in with my quilts which did sell very well. Great! And I still love to make them.

Don't dis the big box stores to me!
Yesterday I realized that my thyroid meds, recently changed to a different company, may be bothering my heart.
A local pharmacy has the right brand. I know that I will have to pay for it out of my pocket so I asked for 30 days.
I went to pick it up, and stood there like a dummy with my 20 in my hand, and was told it was 51.00. Well, I should have said no thanks, but I'm getting ready to go on a trip and I need to get this done. I took it. I called another store and checked the price, it was 28.00. Same Family store~ different city. Well, the first store had given me 90 days because the dr. wrote the rx for that. Wow.
And now the rest of the story. tum tum tum tum tum tee dee tee dee dum---
It's a 10 for 3 months Wal mart Prescription!
Good-by 41.00!
So my suggestion to everyone, is to ask all of the big box drugstores for their paper 4.00 prescription list, many actually give antibiotics at no charge, and to update it often. Maybe a notebook with all of them in it. They are online, you can print them yourself, That 40 didn't take food off my table but my heart goes out to the folks for whom it does.
Our government, in my opinion, made a big mistake in not regulating our drugs, both cost and quality. They are out of control. This was a generic for Synthroid.
UPDATE, April 10th, 2015, My doctor finally lowered my synthroid perscription and after 2 months of out of control heart beats, inability to walk and breath at the same time, cutting my vacation a week short, on Easter 2015 my heart finally went back to its normal semi frequent pvc life style and I am slowly adding back the meds and vitamins I usually take. I thank God for this one more miracle, am listing it here as a mini blessing but to me its the difference in living and not living. I need to make a couple of changes of a private nature between me 'n God, but that's no problem. Thx, God!
Remember the big bru haha about buying Canada drugs? Quality and all? Now most all of our drugs are made in foreign countries,,,wonder who's watching the back doors over there?

Grandma's little hints and money saving advice.
Do not read if you don't want advice. hahaha
Squash your roll of toilet tissue when you put it on the roller, it slows down the spinning and saves TP. Now see how easy that was?
My new best friend this year is Dollar Tree. I try not to go in there because I can find too many things to drop a dollar on but they have 2% milk in a box, on the shelf and its so convenient for out here in the Forest. I never worry about running out because of a storm, and its actually good. Probably not the best for you but for a dollar, its a welcome addition to our pantry.
So off to the local bulk food store, which has been my best friend for years, I picked up two little bags, one of corn meal they now call Polenta, and one cream of wheat. We found out, at about a dollar a bag, breakfast costs about 10 cents for breakfast for 2, we eat a bit of milk and sugar on ours. If you pour thecooked cornmeal in a greased pan and let it cool, cut in squares and fry in a little butter you have something called "Polenta" and they serve it with all sorts of things. We called it corn meal mush. I think maybe the corn is processed a bit, as it cooks in 5 minutes, mama had to cook her ground corn for much longer than that. Jim says it brings back so many memories, and I sat down with my cream of wheat and remembered "Happy Hank" singing a little song about it, 73 years or so ago. Wow. Call me and I'll sing it for you.
I missed my nutcracker on my vacation! Yup, its what I open bottles of water with. A little pinch and a twist and they're off.
Dear Water Company, please make a small nut cracker out of nylon to carry in my purse, and also 2 ounce "bottle-etts" of water which I can toss in my purse and car to take a pill or "wet my whistle" if I need to. Wouldn't that be nice? Even in public, if I were coughing, I could take a sip, and not have to rely on wondering what's coming out of someone's faucet.
Does anyone cook dried beans any more? If you cook up a big kettle of kidney beans, adding onion, salt and pepper, a couple of carrots and a bit of a chili pepper, you will be amazed at the low cost, amazed at how much better they are than canned, and amazed that you can bag them up in zip lock's and freeze them for your soups and chili. So easy! There are lots of directions online.
Be sure that anything you are going to freeze is COLD before you zip the bag shut, or seal the lid down and put in the freezer. Otherwise, its going to taste funny. 'dunno why!
February notes, memories and plans.
A freezing skiff of rain last night put us inside for this February 11, 2015 day. It's cold and we have lots of old western's on the telly. Kids are out of school and probably having a ball.
I had to get Open Office back to see if I can retrieve some of my writing, and I am slowly posting it all here. I found a Valentine's Day Love story which I wrote but never sent to anyone as it's just not a good length, but I love it because it's so "Trucky" lol.
Jim was an Owner Operator for many years, its a tough business but we both just loved it. I went with him except when I hurt my back too bad, or I had to deal with the paperwork, or had chores and errands to catch up with.
I had many people say "Doesn't riding in that truck hurt your back?" Well, yes, but I have a power seat, a modified floor for my legs, a custom set of little steps to use to get in, and prototype arm rests. Funny, nobody ever asked me if vacuuming, dish washing, laundry, ever hurt my back. Well, the answer to all, was yes.
So read Robert's Plan, and if you are a 'trucker, you will recognize a little bit of the road in the story I hope.
Since Open Office is 'way too complicated for me, that's what I will be trying to learn this winter. So far after 3 hours I found out that my printer is my downfall, it will not print 2 sided, so I will see if it will print at Jackpine. I have a little story to print and am not making much headway but the paper stack is getting shorter and shorter.
Have a great day, I am off for my first Spring Break next week. Florida~ Lynn goes with me. I have been away from Jim but he has never been without me for 2 weeks, well, lets say without me laying in the bedroom with arthritis problems. I think he will like the peace and quiet. NOT!

Welcome February! A beautiful Winter's Day!
In case anyone forgot what Ice Crystals and snow look like, this is our back yard this November morning. Keep in mind this is a color photo, so its not very bright today. This is beautiful to see but a little dicey to walk on! I'm inside for the day!!
Sun, Feb. 1, 2015
I got a call from southern Michigan today, they got 6 or so inches of snow. We got a dusting! Funny how weather all works out. Lynn and I fly to Florida for our "Spring Break " in 17 days. We are going via Baltimore.
We are taking undies, a pillow and snacks in our carry on!
Jeff, what were you thinking??
Also in the not funny department, the rental car for 8 days is costing more than our super air fare! WHAT??
A beautiful winter's Sunday, the Rufous Sided Towhee was here off and on all day. He now scratches in the sunflower seed dish, and takes his time. Bob Patshaw says he probably got separated from his flock, perhaps he was hurt, and he is surviving the winter under our Rhododendron bush. There are gaps in the snow around and in the middle of it, and he goes down inside, back in the myrtle I guess, and is surviving under the snow. I wonder if he will leave in the summer, I've never seen one here in 29 years. I'm guessing he was in his migration when something happened.
I'm enjoying the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for the second time today. They're singing me to bed.
An update on the trip to Florida, it was great, but I changed my ticket and flew back with Lynn as I think my BP med is jizzing up my breathing and heart rhythm, I made it home but had to have an assist all the way, stress test this week. Still, saw my friends and enjoyed the Florida weather, cool or not, we had fun!! Downside is all the traffic, it makes you weary after while. People, where are you going and why so fast? Do you really need to cross 3 lanes to ramp off? Have some Mercy!!
My daughter Lynn was driving and I know for a fact that at least twice, she wanted to pull over, get out and say some really bad words, and walk to the airport! Truth is, she is a wonderful city driver but would just like to be able to glance left or right once in a while! And her Jeff drives, as does my Jim, when we are traveling! We are truly princesses!
